Our Last Days in Tokyo

The last three days of our trip we ended up re-visiting some spots and just soaking up the Tokyo vibes.

The best fried chicken (March 2025)

Day seven was a rainy day so we went back to Odaiba and spent some time at the shopping malls.

My family and I ended up at a local chain restaurant nearby our hotel where we had the most incredible fried chicken, rice, miso soup and salad for a super reasonable price.

While paying for our meal, the man was speaking Japanese to my mom’s partner. We didn’t really understand what he was saying until I heard a word I understood and was able to reply.

Oishii! Hai, oishii desu!” I got a little too excited realizing that the man was asking if we thought the food was tasty and ended up shouting my reply as I jumped up and down a little bit. Oops.

Art Aquarium Museum in Ginza (March 2025)

Day eight was our last full day in the city, and our last ticketed activity!

We headed to Ginza and went to our opening slot at the Art Aquarium. The Art Aquarium Museum is an immersive, dreamlike exhibition where traditional Japanese aesthetics meet futuristic colourful art, all centered around beautifully illuminated goldfish.

The space feels like an art gallery meets light show, with kaleidoscopic tanks, shifting colours, and serene music that turns the simple act of watching fish into a hypnotic, almost meditative experience.

Street snacks and wandering Asakusa (March 2025)

After the aquarium, I was happy to go back to Asakusa and pick up some street snacks while taking another look at Senso-ji Temple.

I had a mental list of Japanese treats I wanted to try, and managed to tick them all off my edible bucket list!

The dango was so tasty with a fun, chewy texture; the matcha ice cream bun was light and fluffy, not as sweet or filling as I would have imagined; and I would literally fly back to Japan to have another freshly baked red bean taiyaki.

Exploring outside the Imperial Palace and nearby parks (March 2025)

And on our final day in Tokyo we found some time to walk around the Imperial Palace before heading to the airport.

It was so hard to say goodbye to Tokyo. Japan has become one of my favourite places — but I know I’ll have to go back one day.
