How to Plan a Friends Trip to Vegas

So it’s happening – you’re taking the Vegas trip out of the group chat and making it a reality!

But where do you start?

As someone who successfully planned a trip for four to Las Vegas, here are my tips for organizing a group trip to one of the most popular places for it!

1. Make sure you’re going with friends who share a vibe.

This epic Vegas trip isn’t going to be epic if you don’t have the same travel goals as the group. You want to party but everyone else wants to go hiking in the desert? Your friends are down to stay out all night, but you’re the only early-riser?

Make sure at least one other person on the trip wants the same kind of experience as you do, so you have someone else to share it with.

2. Coordinate schedules.

Probably the hardest part of planning a group trip is figuring out when everyone is available. Do you want a long weekend in Vegas, or a whole week to lounge in the sun with a drink?

Once the nitty gritty is all decided on, it’s time for the fun stuff!

3. Accommodations

Depending what kind of Vegas experience you want to have, you’ll want to stay at a different hotel.

My friends and I decided on Paris Las Vegas because it was on the more affordable end, and it is very centrally located on the Strip. We wanted to spend our time wandering the Strip and exploring other hotels, so location was very important to us.

If you’re looking for a more high-end experience, you may want to look into the Bellagio or the Wynn. If you don’t care about that, and just want a cheap hotel with a pool nearby, maybe New York or Excalibur is a better choice.

Las Vegas is truly a theme park for adults, and each hotel is its own world. Pick one that fits the vibe and budget of your group trip!

4. Explore Social Media and Brainstorm

Get a shared Word or Google doc going and build a running list of all of the things your group wants to check out in Vegas.

Whether it’s the coolest clubs, a crazy show, or a nearby hike – make a master list of everything your group wants to do, see, or restaurants you want to eat at.

We also had a running Instagram group where we’d share reels of cool things to see in Las Vegas.

Then it’s time for the details!

5. Start the Itinerary

Literally my favourite part of planning a trip is the itinerary document that I build out months prior. Get a Word doc or spreadsheet started where you can start organizing the list of things you’ve brainstormed.

Maybe certain restaurants are only open on certain days. Maybe a show will only be running until a certain date.

You’ll have to start booking tickets to shows or making reservations at cocktail bars soon, and this loose itinerary will help keep those things structured.

6. One Booking per Day, Fill in the Rest

So my rule is to not book too many things in one day.

Travel happens! You’ll want to spend more time doing something, or you’ll happen upon something else you want to see. Or you’ll want a rest, or you’ll really enjoy a bar and not want to leave as soon as you’d planned.

Book a restaurant and/or an activity per day, and then leave yourself room to explore and enjoy. This will also help you pull together the rest of your brainstorming list!

We built our itinerary by neighbourhood and factoring in the amount of exercise. So one day we went on a hike through Red Rock Canyon, then booked a pedicure later that day to rest our feet.

One day we scheduled dinner at a restaurant at one end of the Strip, so we spent the afternoon exploring everything between our hotel and the restaurant.

You won’t be able to do everything you want, but this definitely allowed us to pull together as many activities as we could, that we all wanted to experience together!

7. Have fun!

No matter what, you’ll have a great time!
