Athens: Acropolis Views and Freddo Fuel
Hey Wallflower explorers! π
After a beautiful soft landing (and a full night's sleep at the Hotel Syngrou Fix β great location), I was ready to dive headfirst into ancient history and Greek culture. Day Two was a perfect blend of learning, eating, and finally ticking off a ridiculous bucket list item!
Hereβs the journal entry from my packed, powerful second day in Athens! π¬π·π
Phase 1: History and Proof I Was There! πΈποΈ
I let myself sleep in and then it was straight to the biggest star in the city: the Acropolis!
Private tour at the Acropolis (Sept 2025)
The Tour: I had a private morning tour booked, which was the single best way to see the Acropolis. Having a knowledgeable guide was a game-changer! She didn't just point out ruins; she provided rich context that brought the history of the Parthenon and the entire site to life.
The Perk: She also doubled as a fantastic photographerβproof that this solo female traveler was actually there, not just taking landscape photos! πΌοΈ
Pro Tip: If you're looking for the best Athens private tours, prioritize guides who specialize in Greek mythology and history.
Phase 2: Fueling Up on Greek Coffee β
Açaà bowl and my first freddo cappuccino (Sept 2025)
All that historical context made me hungry! I headed straight for brunch at This is Loco, a cute spot near my hotel, perfect for a mid-morning recharge.
The Meal: I crushed an absolutely delicious, healthy açaà bowl.
The Addiction: More importantly, this is where my obsession began. I had my first Freddo Cappuccino! If you haven't tried this frothy, iced Greek coffee, you haven't lived. Itβs the perfect fuel for sightseeing! π
Phase 3: Afternoon Rest & Evening Stroll ποΈ
Outfit change and walks around Athens (Sept 2025)
I returned to the hotel for a bit of essential rest β remember, decompression time is mandatory for happy travel! After a quick outfit change, I was ready for the evening stroll.
Shopping & Views: I wandered through the ruins of the Ancient Agora and then dove into the delightful chaos of Monastiraki Square. I snagged a few quirky souvenirs for my pals and loved soaking up the energy of the busy streets.
Phase 4: Pink CafΓ©s and Wine Discoveries π·
Pink views and pink foods at Ellyz (Sept 2025)
For dinner, I stopped at Ellyz, a gorgeous spot famous for being entirely pink and covered in flowers. It might look like dessert heaven, but I chose a super healthy Buddha bowl β a great way to balance out that Moussaka from last night!
That evening's activity was an Athens Wine Tasting! I'm not a big drinker, but learning about local Greek wine flavors with cheese pairings was a lovely, sophisticated way to spend the evening.
New Friends: This is where I met a fellow traveler from the United States who, turns out, was booked on many of the same upcoming day trips! Score! Finding easy connections is one of the best parts of solo travel.
Phase 5: Quirky Streets and Foot Bliss β¨
On the way back to the hotel, I took a deliberately scenic route:
Gelato, Little Kook and Doctor Fish Foot Spa (Sept 2025)
Little Kook: I stopped for a photo of the outrageously quirky, heavily themed street (it changes its decor seasonally!). It's one of the most photographed and quirky cafes in Athens!
Fish Foot Spa: Then, I found something I've always wanted to try: a Doctor Fish Foot Spa! For fifteen minutes, my tired feet were nibbled clean by tiny, cute fish. It was weird, relaxing, and hilarious all at once! One of my favourite parts of solo travelling is getting to decide on all of the activities and doing what makes me happy. π
Sweet End: I capped the night with a scoop of Nutella gelato and a cozy call home to my mom as I walked back to my room.
What a day! History, coffee, new friends, and baby soft feet. Ready for the next adventure! π
Stay tuned for my first day trip outside of Athens! π
