Athens: Delphi Day Trip
Hey Wallflower Explorers! π
Day Three meant swapping the Athenian streets for the legendary mountains of central Greece! I woke up early, excited for my day trip to Delphi, home of the famed Oracle. It was a perfect example of why small group tours from Athens are often the best way to see the historical sites outside the city: all the history, none of the transport stress!
Hereβs the full journal entry from my journey through ancient landscapes and modern comfort! π
Phase 1: Mountain Views π
My comfy bus for the Delphi day trip had about ten other travellers, which was a lovely, intimate size. The best part? The traveller I met at the wine tasting yesterday was there! Instant travel buddy for the day! π
Scenic Pit Stop: Our first stop was the picturesque mountain town of Arachova. We paused at a beautiful lookout tower to appreciate the gorgeous, sprawling views of the surrounding mountains β the perfect place to capture some stunning photos! β°οΈ
The Vibe: The air was crisp and the scenery was just breathtaking. It was a great start to our journey to the historical site.

Phase 2: Diving into History at Delphi ποΈ
Once we arrived in Delphi, we dove straight into the past.
Museum Context: The tour started inside the Delphi Archaeological Museum. Our guide was fantastic, giving us crucial context that made the artifacts come alive before we stepped onto the actual site.
The Main Event: Then, it was time for the part I was waiting for! I hiked up the steep hill to the iconic Temple of Apollo (home of the Oracle!) and the ancient theater. The views from the top were simply unmatched: a powerful blend of human history and dramatic natural beauty. Itβs absolutely one of the best day trips from Athens for history buffs!

Phase 3: Authentic Lunch with a View π₯
After working up an appetite hiking among the ruins, our guide led us to the nearby town of Delphi for an authentic meal at Taverna Vakhos.
The Food: Oh my goodness, the food was incredible! I ordered the super fresh Greek salad with a huge slice of feta on top, the real deal! Paired with the constant view of the mountains, it was the perfect, memorable lunch. This is the best authentic Greek food in Delphi.
The Company: Having lunch with a small group of people of various ages from around the world, sharing stories and talking about life back home for each of us, was such a lovely experience. Solo travel doesn't mean eating alone!

Phase 4: From Ancient Greece to Nostalgia and Comfort ππΊ
The couple of hours drive back to Athens felt long, but it gave me a great chance to look at all the stunning photos and recharge after a day of exploring.
Once back at my hotel, I went from high culture to low-key comfort instantly!
Dinner Choice: I was tired and hungry (and definitely not making a reservation!), so I grabbed a trusty cheeseburger from a nearby fast food joint. Zero guilt! Sometimes, a comfort meal is exactly what you need.
The Unwind: I settled into my cozy room at the hotel and watched some nostalgic Nickelodeon shows on TV before falling asleep. The perfect, easy end to a long, successful day of wandering!
Tomorrow: The Saronic Gulf awaits! Get ready for island hopping! ππ’
Wallflower Wonders: What's your go-to comfort meal after a long day of sightseeing? Cheeseburger or something else? Let me know! π
