Athens: Saronic Gulf Swims and Island Hopping
Hey Wallflowers! π
After a history deep-dive yesterday, Day Four was all about sun, sea, and pure, unadulterated island bliss! I woke up excited for my Saronic Gulf island hopping day trip, ready to swap ancient ruins for sparkling Aegean waters. This was hands-down one of my favorite travel days! π’
Hereβs my recap from my perfect day sailing the sea and finding pure freedom! π
Morning sails (Sept 2025)
Phase 1: Sea Legs and Pistachio Perfection π°
My day started bright and early with an 8 AM pickup right from my hotel, whisking me off to the port. The bus dropped us off, and soon I was aboard a charming small boat packed with fellow travelers eager for the sea breeze!
The Sail: We sailed in the brisk morning air for just over an hour before reaching our first stop: Aegina Island.
Aegina Delights: Our guide took us on a quick tour, where we learned about the island's famous exportβpistachios! We sampled the salty, delicious nuts and ended the tour at Gelato Follia, where I indulged in my favorite childhood flavor: bubblegum gelato! π¦
First Swim: My travel buddy from the wine tasting and I decided to walk the small, lovely streets of Aegina and head straight for the beach for a quick dip. My first swim of the trip! A quick splash in the Mediterranean is the best wake-up call.

Phase 2: Open Water Jumps and a Greek Feast π€Ώ
Back aboard the boat, we sailed for a while longer until we hit a perfect, secluded spot just outside Metopi Island. Time for some open-water fun!
Jumping In: We dropped anchor, and the crew brought out snorkel gear and pool noodles. I had an absolute blast jumping from the height of the boat into the deep, sparkling ocean. My stomach did flips, but that rush of cold water and adrenaline made me feel completely free and alive! This is the ultimate Saronic Gulf cruise adventure!
Lunch Buffet: Once we dried off, we were treated to a super fresh buffet right on the deck: chicken, salad, potatoes, and an assortment of incredible, fresh Greek food. The perfect feast after a major swim.

Phase 3: Agistri Bliss & Sunset Relaxation βοΈ
Right after lunch, we arrived at our final stop, and it was my favorite island of the day: Agistri.
Island Vibe: We had the entire afternoon to just wander the peaceful streets, taking in the iconic Greek scenery β classic white buildings, splashes of colorful flowers, and brilliant blue shutters.
Freddo Fuel: I treated myself to another Freddo Cappuccino (my new obsession!) and simply soaked up the atmosphere. Itβs the perfect, relaxed pace you crave on an Athens island hopping day trip.
The Unwind: By the time we got back on the boat, everyone was ready for downtime. I snagged a spot on the deck, enjoyed a glorious nap under the hot sun, and drifted off listening to classic 80s tunes. Pure, blissful relaxation.

Phase 4: The Perfect Athenian Nightcap π₯
When we finally returned to Athens, I was salty, sleepy, and wonderfully hungry again! Instead of searching for a fancy dinner, I opted for the ultimate Greek street food comfort. I snagged an incredible pork gyros from Ambrosia, a spot right near my hotel, the Hotel Syngrou Fix. Seriously, after a day of sea air and sun, that perfectly seasoned meat, wrapped in warm pita with creamy tzatziki, was easily the best late-night gyros in Athens. It was the perfect, authentic, and satisfying end to a massive day of exploring!

This day was a reminder that the best travel moments often involve a salty breeze, good company, and a huge leap into the unknown. Tomorrow, weβre off to explore more historical wonders! π¬π·
