Good Eats in Amsterdam

I don’t remember what I expected from the food in Amsterdam, but I didn’t expect to be so blown away by the quality of every single thing we ate!

I’ll give you a rundown of all of the restaurants, bars, and bakeries we tried on our trip to Amsterdam and spoiler alert, I recommend them all.

But I’ve saved the best for last, so make sure to scroll to the end!

A delicious burger and fries (May 2024)

Burgers n’ Wings

I’ll start with Burgers n’ Wings because it has since closed down, but I do need to talk about how good this burger was.

Brandon and I had been craving a simple burger since we arrived in Europe, so when Google Maps showed us that there was a highly rated burger joint just down the street from a cocktail bar we wanted to try, we knew we had to go there.

The burgers were juicy, cooked and topped to perfection. The fries were just the right amount of crispy. But nothing felt greasy enough that I felt gross after eating it. It was just a really good meal that hit the spot after a day of walking.

Cocktails at Tales & Spirits (May 2024)

Tales & Spirits

Our friend had recommended that we come to this funky cocktail bar, so we added it to our list.

I love a good cocktail bar, and the vibes at this place were so warm, cozy, and on point.

And the cocktails were absolutely delicious. I don’t drink much, so it’s easy for me to drink one drink and decide I’m done. But these drinks were so good that I could have kept going.

My fruity drink was the perfect blend of sweet and tangy, but I loved Brandon’s zombie rum cocktail. It was such a cozy way to end the day.

PANCAKES Amsterdam (May 2024)

PANCAKES Amsterdam

The best way to start a full day is with a good breakfast – and we started every single day on this Amsterdam leg of the trip at Pancakes

Dutch pancakes are truly delicious. I love a savory pancake or crepe, and these pancakes from Pancakes were one of my favourite meals on this trip.

My favourite Pancakes had smoked salmon and spinach, topped with a fried egg. Absolutely a great meal before a day full of walking.

We also tried spicy chicken pancakes, chocolate strawberry pancakes and the classic lemon and sugar. They were all so delicious.

Van Wonderen Stroopwafels (May 2024)

Van Wonderen Stroopwafels

On our way back to the hotel for the evening on day one, we made one last stop at Van Wonderen Stroopwafels for one of the most iconic Dutch desserts.

A stroopwafel is two very thin layers of waffle with another very thin layer of caramel in between. When you bite in, you get a bit of a crunch from the waffle, but a mostly warm and chewy experience.

Or, in this case we had three. All incredible.

Grand Café Restaurant 1e Klas (May 2024)

Grand Café Restaurant 1e Klas

I was so excited to spend our last evening together at the Grand Café Restaurant 1e Klas restaurant – a gorgeous restaurant that is actually tucked away in Grand Centraal Station. I’d eaten here the first time I was in Amsterdam, but I was with a large travel group so we were given a set menu.

This time, I was looking forward to ordering what I wanted. Brandon and I had such a nice dinner with incredible food (the duck was on point), in a lovely setting.

And the restaurant is home to a very cute and talkative cockatoo! We love animals, so we got a kick out of seeing the bird enjoying the busy restaurant.

Cocktails and a platter at Cannibale Royale (May 2024)

Cannibale Royale

As promised, I’ve saved the best for last!

Brandon and I did what we do best and opened Google Maps to find a fan-favourite restaurant near our location for the day. Which is how we found Cannibale Royale.

Cannibale Royale is a very cool spot serving up smokey meats and incredible cocktails. With old school pub vibes on point, we ordered the platter for two so we could try a little bit of everything!

The sausages blew me away. The tropical passion fruit cocktail was unlike anything I'd ever tried before. Everything we ate on this platter was just delicious.

If you’re in the Netherlands, you need to check out Cannibale Royale. This was not even a sponsored post, I just really loved this restaurant!
