Las Vegas: Tattoos and a Haunted Museum

The second last day of our Vegas trip was upon us, and we were starting to feel that end-of-trip panic.

That realization that hits you around this point of your travels when you realize you’re going to have to go back home, and the fantasy will soon be over.

So we had packed our day full of bucket list things we wanted to do in Las Vegas, starting with a delicious hot dog and cup of Mexican corn for early lunch at Dirt Dog, then heading to our first real destination.

Zak Bagans Haunted Museum (Aug 2024)

My partner and our friend are big fans of horror movies and the spooky genre in general, and they both really wanted us to visit the Zak Bagans Haunted Museum while we were in town. So we booked tickets.

I was actually pretty impressed at the breadth of this haunted museum. While they do really play up the creepy nature and try to make you feel uneasy and scared walking through the space, there are quite a lot of neat pieces in the museum. It was totally worth the money for the experience, if anyone else is a horror fan.

Next stop, tattoos!

Koolsville Tattoos (Aug 2024)

My friends and I were pretty stoked to visit Koolsville Tattoo – a chain that offers flash tattoos for as little as $10. So I spent $20 on a little alien buddy and his UFO!

I’m a fan of my tattoos and have actually always wanted to get an alien, so even though it was spontaneous, it’s not one I’ll regret anytime soon.

When it was time for dinner, my friend was excited to be able to introduce my partner and I to her favourite barbecue joint in Vegas: Soulbelly BBQ.

We each got pork belly with a bunch of sides, including coleslaw, pickles and incredible cornbread. Along with a smokey Old Fashioned, it was an absolutely delicious meal.

It was also just nice to sit down and chat about the entire trip: what was everyone’s favourite part so far, what surprised us the most, what would we want to do again. But we still had a night left to spend in Las Vegas, and decided to head up to the Neon Museum.

Neon Museum (Aug 2024)

Honestly, I wanted to visit the Neon Museum because it looked like a really neat place to take photos. I love a neon sign, and wanted the chance to explore. But it was actually more impressive than I expected.

It’s not very big, but the sheer amount of old signs from buildings past in this neon graveyard was really cool. My friends and I enjoyed taking the time to wander and just take in the sights of Old Vegas.

Cat’s Meow Karaoke bar (Aug 2024)

And for our final stop before heading back for the night, the four of us walked back to Fremont Street and took an escalator up to the Cat’s Meow Karaoke bar.

My friend and I love doing karaoke, but I’m not one to get up on a stage in front of a bunch of people to do it. She, on the other hand, has a bravery I do not and signed up to sing. We had a great time watching other parties perform, and then Steph got up there and nailed it with her rendition of the Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer”.

It was a great day full of adventures and trying new things for each other, and our big Vegas adventure was almost over.

But we did have one day left.
